Adda River Hike

February 29 @ 8:00 - 15:30

Adda River Hike: Trezzo and Crespi d’Adda
The Adda River will be the thread that will lead us to discover the history that bonds man and water throughout the centuries.
The starting and finishing point of our hike will be Trezzo d’Adda, where the castle dating from 1300 dominates the river valley that separates the provinces of  Milano and Bergamo today, although it has always been a strategic political border. We will also admire the stunning architecture of the Taccani hydroelectric power plant, operating since the start of 1900, a marvel of industrial revolution. Following the pleasant riverside, within a protected nature area, we will spot the origin point of Martesana canal, built at the end of 1400.
This historical thread becomes that of cotton, when we enter Villaggio Crespi, with its former cotton factory, a unique workers’ village from late 1800, part of the Unesco World Heritage list as the best preserved example of a company town in southern Europe. We will discover the “utopia” of enlightened industrialists, Cristoforo and Silvio Crespi, with the many services provided to employees, who lived their entire life in the village, from the cradle to the grave.
We will have lunch at a local restaurant and then come back to Trezzo following the eastern river side, thus doing a loop hike.
