San Tomaso Plain: a Panoramic Hike Above Valmadrera
A nice and pleasant hike to reach an idyllic meadow in a sunny and panoramic position. Here the tiny church of San Tomaso overlooks Valmadrera, Lecco, Monte Barro, Resegone and Grignetta mountains, and the first basin of lake Como.
We will have lunch in a refuge with simple and genuine homemade courses, before heading down along another nice path.
To go: 8:00am meeting point at Milano Centrale Railway Station, at the front of the platform of Regional train 2816 (headed to Tirano). At 8:20am, train to Lecco arriving at 8:59am. At 9:45am bus to Valmadrera (a. 10:03am).
Hike: Valmadrera (230 m), highest point (636 m), San Tomaso (580 m), Valmadrera (230 m)
Lunch at San Tomaso refuge
To come back: 4:20pm bus from Valmadrera to Lecco (a. 4:41pm). At 5:01pm, train to Milano Centrale arriving at 5:40pm.
Difficulty: easy/medium, ascent: 450 m, descent: 450 m, minimum altitude: 230 m, maximum altitude: 636 m, walking time (excluding stops): 3 hours, km 7
Equipment: daily backpack, trekking boots and socks or good running shoes, trekking poles (if you use them), comfortable clothes in layers with a warm layer, rain jacket, 1 liter bottle of water (canteen), identity card
Cost: €25 (includes insurance, does not include train and bus tickets)
