Kandinsky exhibition with the Varese club
The Varese Benvenuto Club is plan-
ning a visit to the exhibition: Kandins-
ki e l’Italia at the Museum Ma*Ga in
Gallarate: with 130 works of art, 20 of which are
Kandinski.
The exhibition aims to reconstruct Kandinsky’s role
in the European art scene, particularly his relation-
ship with italian abstract art. The first part of the
exhibition will focus on the European cultural climate
of the 1920s and 1930s, when the russian artist,
through his lectures at the Bauhaus, exerted a deci-
sive influence on the development of abstract paint-
ing and engaged in dialogue with figures such as
Paul Klee, Jean arp, Joan Miró, alexander Calder,
and antoni Tàpies. The second section explores his
connection with the italian art scene, beginning with
his solo exhibition in Milan in 1934, which sparked
a lively debate among italian artists opposed to the
dominant figurative style. The birth and persistence
of abstract art, from the historical avant-garde move-
ments to the 1950s, are thus reflected in the lan-
guages of lucio
Fontana, osvaldo li-
cini, Fausto Melotti,
Manlio rho, Enrico
Prampolini, atana-
sio soldati, and luigi
Veronesi.
The exhibition will conclude with a focus on the
post world war ii period, when Kandinsky’s
thought and work continued to be central thanks to
exhibitions such as Abstract and Concrete Art (Mi-
lan, 1947) and Abstract Art in Italy (rome, 1948),
as well as the Forma, MaC, and origine move-
ments, which inspired artists such as Carla accar-
di, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Piero dorazio, roberto
sebastián Matta, achille Perilli, antonio sanfilippo,
and Emilio Vedova.
it is an important exhibition if you would like to
understand abstract art and especially “astrattismo
Europeo”.
