Walking Sunday

June 22 @ 10:00 - 12:00

THE WALkING SUNDAY IS BACk!
in line with FawCo’s Clubs in Motion initiative, we’re
excited to announce a new walking sunday, open to all
members!
This time, we’ll explore Parco Monte Stella and the
Giardino dei Giusti (Garden of the Righteous) —
two unique and meaningful green spaces in Milan.
Monte Stella was designed by the architect Piero Bot-
toni after wwii, using rubble from bombed buildings
to create an artificial hill. originally planned to be 90
meters high, the final 45-meter Montagnetta (how it is
known) became a panoramic park with winding paths
and beautiful views over the city. Bottoni dedicated it to
his wife, Elsa Stella—hence the name.
a walk through this symbolic place is a chance to expe-
rience Milan’s postwar resilience and its ability to turn
destruction into beauty.
since 2003, the Giardino dei Giusti has served as a
symbolic site in Milan, honoring exemplary figures
of moral resistance from around the world. The first
trees were dedicated to:
• Moshe Bejski, in honor of the righteous among the
nations during the holocaust,
• Pietro Kuciukian, for those who defended arme-
nians during the genocide,
• Svetlana Broz, representing those who opposed eth-
nic cleansing in the Balkans.
The Garden is a space for reflection and education on
personal responsibility. it reminds us that every human
being, by exercising even the smallest act of freedom,
can take a stand against injustice and crimes against
humanity.
